Great course!

Scott Gooding

This course cuts through the typically dogmatic approach to carb prescription being high vs low. It's good to understand the nuances that exist.

In this short course, Cliff Harvey gave a brief historic overview of low carb diets since the 1990s (in contrast to the standard high carb diets) and how the emphasis has changed over time with additional understanding of the physiology of low carb diets. Examples for this are the changing ideas about athletes and low carb, the increasing insights in the need for adequate protein (and what adequate protein levels mean), and the improved understanding that low carb diets are especially beneficial for people with insulin resistance, but are not the be-all/end-all for all people. Cliff also went into detail regarding his own work on the effects of low carb diets on healthy people and the DIETFITS study. As always, the talk and the discussion afterwards tried to 'keep the dogma' out: the best diet is still a high quality, nutrient-dense, unprocessed food diet which you can stick to, supported by the people you live (and eat) with.
